It’s a challenging time to run a small business, like a barbershop or salon. We don’t know what the next few weeks will bring, but we do have some good ideas on how we might all be able to get through this challenging time.

Offer vouchers for future cuts

Although you can’t physically see any customers at the moment. That doesn’t mean you have to stop trading completely. Now might be a good time to introduce gift vouchers as an option. This way, customers can support you and your business whilst you’re not able to trade as usual and they can be redeemed when things are back to normal.

Rebook clients for a future date

If you take bookings rather than walk-ins, now would be a good time to contact your customers and book them in for future dates. This way, when you do re-open, you’ll have a diary full of customers, rather than having to wait for business to ramp up again.

Online shop

Do you sell products in store? If you sell hair products and accessories alongside your hair cutting services, it could be a good idea to set-up an online shop to sell these products whilst the physical salon is closed. Another revenue stream and you have an established customer base – just get the word out on social media.

Prepare for re-opening

Failing all of that, now is the time to get everything in order in time for re-opening. You know all those big plans you’ve had to put off, because you haven’t had enough time to do them whilst running the salon? Now is the time to work on your plans. And focussing on the future will help you to stay upbeat and positive. Why not think about planning a grand re-opening, for when it’s safe to do so? All your customers will be looking forward to you opening your doors, so it’s a great way to show them your appreciation.
